The last four days have been tough. It’s been cold, rainy, hilly, and hot. It’s also been beautiful, peaceful, loving, moving, and I have been very connected to God and other people on the Camino.
This is also tough for me. I will only do it once (and maybe a reminder at the end).
I have two asks for you.
- Help spread the word about Catholic Energies, a program of Catholic Climate Covenant. If you need to learn more, click any of the links above.
- Please directly support Catholic Energies by making a donation. Here are some suggested amounts.
- $1 for every mile, $500
- $0.10 for every mile, $50
Thank you!
Because I’m moving so much of the day, I really only have time to take care of myself (shower, laundry, stretch, eat,) and not much else. I promise I will write more, but I’m not exactly sure when.
Camino Day 10: Calzadilla de los Hermanillos to near León airport
32.3 miles, 1,270′ gain, 1,100′ loss, 8:40
Rainy. 5 mile warm-up walk, 10 moles running and shin pain came back. Walked the rest of the day. We’ll see what tomorrow brings.
Camino Day 11: León to outside Astorga
32.0 miles, 1,500′ gain, 2,800′ loss, 10:00
Waking day. Learn to live with shin pain. Beautiful day, but long.
Camino Day 12: Astorga to Ponferrada
29.5 miles, 2,700′ gain, 3,900 loss, 9:30
Up and over a small mountain. Stopped and talked to a lot of people and walked at their pace. Now left foot tendon is starting to hurt.
Camino Day 13: Ponferrada to La Faba
30.3 miles, 2,800′ gain, 1,800′ loss, 8:50
Flat and warm. The right calf and shin got better as the day goes on! Going uphill with no pain! Came back after dinner.
I will provide more detailed daily updates when I find time.

Stay strong Jeff! The mileage is impressive, especially with the pain.
Hang in there, Jeff! So impressed that you’re doing this and working to bring attention to climate change, and the need for the Catholic community to do more to address its carbon footprint.
Way to go Jeff!!!! Matt, Myself and the kids are all cheering you on and love seeing the updates! Hope running the final steps with your Lord and family around you is as truly incredible as it sounds. ❤️
